I have added a new feature which allows the user to add forecast months to the algorithm, beyond that which is needed, to show scenarios after the next PO ETA. This feature needs to be used carefully – the more months shown above and beyond what is required will likely change the previous estimated reorder date(s). I use this feature for getting an idea of future cash flow needs, however, I always dial it back to the optimal setting to give the best estimate for the next reorder date.

I have simplified the display, so that only the relevant months are shown in the forecast table. I have also modified the forecast graph, so that it corresponds with the forecast table, showing only those months.

Next version of the reorder date algorithm

The main change on this reorder date algorithm is a feature where any start date can be used, instead of just the present date. I’ve simplified the wording, changed a few colours, added more decimal places in some areas and now include a prompt so that an adequate number of months of the forecast can be entered. I have changed nothing with the calculations – It is still working as designed, giving refreshingly consistent and accurate reorder dates and amounts.

On April 26th, 1956, the Ideal-X steamed out of Newark carrying 58 converted truck trailers to Houston on the world’s first container-ship voyage. Designed by North Carolina trucking executive Malcom McLean, containers cut the cost of loading material onto ships from nearly $6 per ton to 16 cents per ton, shrank loading time in ports from weeks to hours, and, over the next 20 years, raised productivity at docks a thousand-fold.
